Photography: Travel: Katz's Deli, NYC

"Katz’s Delicatessen is not only the oldest Jewish deli in New York, the USA, or elsewhere, but it is one of the few places where one can instantly tap into the energy and antics that define New York City. Though tourists dominate Katz’s during the day, at night it is a beautiful cross section of Lower Manhattan’s ever changing cast: burly cops, ageing Jews, hulking gangsters, skinny hipsters, drunken frat boys, and a consistently rotating cast of beautiful, strange, awe inspiring randoms. They come for New York’s finest pastrami, sure, but they also come because Katz’s is everything that’s right about New York."
